The town of Tuineje, Fuerteventura, celebrates its San Miguel festivities every October in honour of the 1740 battle of Tamasite, when the locals expelled the British pirates from the island of Fuerteventura. The recreation of the English landing on the beach of Gran Tarajal, the representation of the battle on the mountain of Tamasite and the pilgrimage in honour of the saint are the three main events of the Festivities in honour of San Miguel Archangel of Tuineje. The events represented took place in 1740, when English pirate ships invaded the island and ended up being expelled by the Majoreros (locals from Fuerteventura).
